Jota team-mates Hancock and Quaife fourth and sixth respectively

Sam Hancock claimed a fourth place finish at round five of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Donington Park, showing consistency with his results at the last duo of rounds.

The London-based driver was battling for third with Michael Caine at one point of the race, but the Team Parker Racing driver pulled away and Hancock had to fight to defend his place from a chasing Callum Macleod of Porsche Motorsport.

Hancock explains: "I started fifth and got a good start into fourth past Charles Bateman then the top four - Bridgman, Harvey, Caine and I - all pulled away quite quickly to give a big gap. I was able to hold onto Caine's tail and once the front two pulled away further, we had our own little battle. But as soon as I started to push, the tyres heated up too quickly and I started to lose grip. I thought by looking after the tyres I might have been able to come back later in the race but they still started to blister towards the end and then I just had to hold off Macleod. I'm a bit disappointed as we seem to be lacking a chunk of time and there's no reason why. Essentially we just need to knuckle down and improve things for the second race."

After a difficult start, 22 year-old team-mate Phil Quaife finished sixth behind Macleod. He describes his race: "The conditions were dry and I started from seventh. I made a dreadful start with too much wheel spin and Nigel Rice passed me into the first corner so I was lying eighth. Rice is a clever racer who knows a few tricks so it took a few difficult laps to get past him. Once done, I managed to pull out a substantial gap but the front pack had already pulled quite far away. I started catching MacLeod but I was doing the same times as everyone else and with no one to really fight with I was pushing every lap hoping that someone would make a mistake. They didn't, so I finished sixth.

Looking ahead to the second race of the day, Quaife added: "Overall, we've moved forward a little from Rockingham; the car handles okay even if it's not that quick and we were struggling to find those last few tenths on each lap. In qualifying we were miles behind but in the race we seemed a bit closer. It's starting to rain now so I'm crossing my fingers for a wet race. We were pretty good in testing in the rain so we should be pretty good this afternoon if that is the case."
